  Welcome to the Tuscola County Register of Deeds Office on-line search! This service was made available due to Michigan's newly enacted "Automation Fund" act. Land records are available on-line from 1992 to the present. Remember to check the effective dates on the search screen. All other land records dating back to 1860 are available for research by visiting the office. Copies of plats are $2.00 per page and all other recorded copies are $1.00 per page.   County History: "Tuscola" is believed to have derived from the Chippewa Indian word "Tusci" which means "level land." There are 812 square miles within the county's borders and 58,249 residents. Tuscola County has 23 townships and 1 city. Lumbering is credited with being the first industry and for the most part, is responsible for the establishment of the county. Cork pine of the Cass River Valley was recognized worldwide for its superiority. Today, our county is rich in agriculture, recreation areas, and heritage. Besides the beautiful countryside and twisting Cass River, Tuscola County offers many historical sites such as the Octagon Barn in Gagetown and the beautiful stained glass window in the Courthouse in Caro commemorating General Cass signing a treaty with the Indians.
